Mitral valve echo simulator: regurgitation, stenosis, repair and prostheses
Mitral Valve Training is a free echocardiography simulator. Each case is a virtual 3D mitral valve in a beating heart, shown in the parasternal long-axis and short-axis and apical 4-, 2- and 3-chamber views, with colour Doppler and a CW Doppler trace. Name the valve, the mechanism and its Carpentier type, grade the regurgitation or stenosis, and see how close you were to the exact answer.
What you can practise
- Primary mitral regurgitation: single-scallop prolapse, flail leaflet, Barlow’s disease and annular disjunction, cleft, perforation and endocarditis
- Secondary mitral regurgitation: ischaemic, dilated cardiomyopathy and atrial functional MR; systolic anterior motion (SAM)
- Mitral stenosis: rheumatic and calcific (MAC)
- After intervention: TEER clips, surgical repair with an annuloplasty ring, bioprosthetic and mechanical valves, and paravalvular leaks
