Auto EF: an automated LV ejection fraction from an apical 4-chamber clip
Auto EF estimates left-ventricular ejection fraction with a deep-learning video model. Point it at the apical 4-chamber loop on your reporting software, or choose a clip, and it returns an EF and its category. Use it as a second look next to your own measurement, not instead of it.
How it works
- Show it the loop. Press Screen and choose the window of your reporting software that shows the images, or use the camera, or choose an MP4, MOV, WebM, AVI or DICOM file.
- Frame the LV. Drag the box onto the apical 4-chamber sector and resize it from the corners, so the model sees the ventricle and not the rest of the screen.
- Read the estimate. The result comes back as an EF percentage with its category, from hyperdynamic to severely impaired, and any warnings about the clip.
What it is, and what it is not
- It is an assistive estimate from a video model trained on apical 4-chamber clips.
- It is not a Simpson's biplane measurement and it does not trace the endocardium.
- It can be wrong with a foreshortened view, a poor window, arrhythmia, or a box that misses the ventricle.
- Look at the images yourself. Do not put the number in a report until you are satisfied it matches the study.
Patient data
The clip is sent to an external analysis service, and only the EF comes back. DICOM files are rebuilt before they leave Echo Wizard, keeping only the imaging data needed to play and time the loop, so names, IDs, dates, institutions and private tags are not sent. Text burned into the pixels is not removed, so crop it out with the box or mask it before you start. The privacy policy has the details.
Who can use it
Auto EF is in development. It is switched on for individual members rather than for every account, and a warning reminds you each time you open it. If you would like to try it, create an account and ask through the address on the privacy page.
Questions about Auto EF
Which view does it need?
One apical 4-chamber clip with the whole left ventricle in the sector. Other views are not supported.
Does it write the report sentence?
No. While it is in development, Auto EF gives the estimate only. The LVEF and cardio-oncology tools draft the report text from the EF you decide on.
Is the clip stored?
Echo Wizard does not keep the clip or the result as a record. The clip is passed to the analysis service and only the EF comes back to your screen.

Development feature. Auto EF is an assistive estimate. It does not replace your own measurement or judgement, and you remain responsible for every number in the report.
